Alaska On-Highway Destinations & Attractions

Printer-friendly versionSend to friend

Many of Alaska’s favorite vacation destinations are, in fact, located along the highway system. For example, the Chugach National Forest, Denali National Park and Preserve, and Kenai Fjords National Park are all easy drives from Anchorage. A number of Alaska highways have also been designated federal or state scenic byways. These remarkable roadways include the Dalton, Glenn, Haines, Parks, Richardson, Seward, and Sterling highways.

Visit the Alaska Department of Transportation, to find an Alaska map showing Alaska's highway systems and to learn more about Alaska’s scenic byways and the driving highlights that make them special. Ultimately, driving on Alaska’s beautiful highways is both a reward in itself and a gateway to some of the state’s best vacation destinations.
