Denali Raft Adventures

Rafting and river trips.  Your c

The Interior Region is a remarkable Alaska vacation destination and includes perhaps the most recognized attractions in the state--Mt. McKinley and Denali National Park and Preserve. This area offers Alaska visitors a broad range of vacation attractions and recreational options for the Alaska adventure traveler. With well-maintained roads between the primary transportation hubs (Fairbanks, Delta Junction, Tok, and Cantwell), a vacation in this region allows Alaska travelers to conveniently access spectacular Alaskan scenery and hiking, go wildlife viewing, visit natural hot springs, and perhaps catch a glimpse of the aurora borealis, the hypnotic northern lights.

Public lands in this region include Denali National Park and Preserve, Denali State Park, Upper Chatanika River, Chena River, and Tok River State Recreation Sites, Yukon Flats National Wildlife Refuge, and Yukon-Charley National Preserve.  For those looking to explore Alaska from the road system as well as those looking for a broad sampling of Alaskan experiences, the interior Alaska region offers a fine balance of convenience and remote experiences.

For thousands of years, the Native American Indians in this region, the Athabaskans, have subsisted along five major river ways: the Yukon, Tanana, Susitna, Kuskokwim, and Copper River drainages.  All 11 Athabaskan dialects are found in the Interior Alaska region, and several interior villages still maintain a traditional subsistence lifestyle.

Grizzly bears, wolves, caribou, and moose can sometimes be sighted in Denali National Park and throughout the Interior Region.  Whether visitors arrange a trip on the Denali National Park bus system or explore more remote and quiet regions, Alaska adventurers have many options to consider in this central Alaska destination.

The climate in Interior Alaska is one of extremes.  The summer and winter seasons are buffered by a brief spring (May) and autumnal (September) period with annual temperatures ranging from -40 to up to 90 degrees Fahrenheit, although 20 degrees toward center is more often the norm.  Summers can be quite warm, and visitors are often surprised to learn that sun glasses and sunscreen are important travel items for this Alaska destination.
