Alaska Fly In Destinations & Attractions

Printer-friendly versionSend to friend

Alaska is a vast state and many of its most spectacular wilderness areas and fascinating native communities cannot be reached by road but are easily accessible by plane.  Planes are often the best way of traveling within Alaska, providing scenic tours of Alaska’s natural wonders while also being efficient Alaska transportation vehicles, minimizing travel time for you on your Alaska vacation. Jet service is available from Alaska’s “urban hubs,” Anchorage, Fairbanks, and Juneau, to some of Alaska’s larger communities.

Smaller villages and many Alaska wilderness vacation destinations can only be reached by chartering a small private plane or “bush plane,” as they are known locally.  These small, maneuverable aircraft easily land on dirt strips, sand bars, and even ice fields and equipped with floats, private seaplane charters can land on almost any lake or calm tidal waterway.

Private air charters in Alaska can be easily hired for a short flightseeing trip or a drop-off at a remote location for a week of fishing or backpacking.  Some of Alaska’s top vacation attractions, such as the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, Gates of the Arctic National Park and Preserve, Katmai National Park and Preserve, and Lake Clark National Park and Preserve, are fly-in destinations.  Chartering a bush plane allows visitors to take advantage of unique Alaska vacation itineraries, and there is no better way of getting a sense of authentic Alaska than spending quiet and relaxing time in a remote, beautiful location where there is little or no evidence of civilization.
